Department of sociology

 

Educational programme "Sociology" aims to prepare students of bachelor, master and doctorate wielding professional knowledge, skills and abilities in the field of implementation and maintenance of specific sociological research, social analysts.   

Training in the specialty "Sociology" is conducted at the Department since 1997 on the basis of the faculty of History and Philology, since 2009 at the Faculty of social Sciences of ENU. L. N. Gumilev.

From year to year there is an increase in the number of students.  If in the 2016-2017 academic year, 9 students were accepted for training on the state educational grant, in the 2017-2018 academic year, 16 students were accepted for training on the state educational grant, then in the current 2018-2019 academic year 41 students enrolled. The same growth trend is observed in the recruitment of students for magistracy and doctoral studies.

Since 2014, OP "5B050100-Sociology" in the ratings of the Independent Agency for accreditation and rating (NAAR) and the Independent Agency for quality assurance in education (NAOKO) ranks first.

The Department of Sociology has important competitive advantages that allow it to position itself as a steadily progressive actor of the educational space leading a special "piece" training of highly qualified specialists.

The first advantage: the educational process is provided by highly qualified teaching staff of the Department, including 4 doctors of Sciences, 4 candidates of Sciences, 8 PhD doctors. The degree of teaching staff in the 2018-2019 academic year was 83.25 %. 

The second advantage of the Department: the systematic use of the results in each academic period of applied disciplines, developing the skills of quantitative and qualitative methods, as well as features of visual methods of working with iconographic documents and information.  

Third advantage: systematic monitoring of effectiveness evaluation in the field of quality assurance of educational programs depending on the changing environmental conditions.

The fourth advantage: the presence of successful organizations – bases of practices. For 2019, the Department signed a cooperation agreement with the bases of practice: the Research Institute "Public opinion", the Ministry of culture and sports of Kazakhstan, NGO "Association of sociologists and politologists of Kazakhstan," OO NIA "Institute of democracy", LLP "Mediker Astana", LLP research center "Bilim", LLP research center "Youth", LLP "Center of business decisions," CHU ", the Institute for public policy of the party "Nur Otan", PE "Center of social interaction and communications", etc.

The fifth advantage: 100% employment of graduates. The ninth advantage: the staff of the Department provides students with the necessary educational literature in the state language. A number of teachers under the guidance of Professor J. B. Esmagambet from January 2015 till present translate the e-journal Global Dialogue (http://isa-global-dialogue.net/). The uniqueness of the project that the Kazakh language has become one of the 14 languages into which the magazine is published.
