VIRTUAL SEMINAR ON THE INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVES OF NEW PSYCHOACTIVE SUBSTANCES (NPS)

On the 18 of June 2021, was held a virtual seminar "International Perspectives of New Psychoactive Substances (NPS)" within the framework of the SOLID project, funded by the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service Exceed program) and implemented by the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences at five universities in Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan) and China (Shanghai).

To the seminar was attended from the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University the project coordinator on Social Work - Dinara Yessimova, Associate Professor of the Department of Sociology, postdoctoral student - Nurlan Baigabylov, PhD in Sociology, and also doctoral students Mukasheva Dalida, Kudabekov Medet, Baltabayeva Zhaniyat.

The Rapporteur of the seminar were internationally renowned speakers as well as researchers who shared information on use patterns, trafficking, monitoring, darknet, policy and research questions on the topic of NPS.

International experts emphasized that NPS have become a global phenomenon affecting all countries on the world. However, this is a relatively new phenomenon and the fast changing narcotics market can pose serious risks to health and society.

During the session, Bernd Werse, (Goethe University, Frankfurt on Main), spoke on the topic: "Overview on NPS in Germany and Europe and the effects of these substances", Maria Prilutskaya (Kazakhstan) presented the results of the research on the topic: "The use of new Psychoactive Substances in Republic of Kazakhstan ”, speakers Guzalkhon Zakhidova and Azizbek Boltaev (Uzbekistan) reported the topic “Evidence-based health interventions for youth using new psychoactive substances (NPS) ”and other international experts from Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and China.

Experts reported about reducing activities and use of opioids such as opium and heroin, while trafficking and consumption of NPS (Central Asia) and methamphetamines (China) is increasing through the Internet market.

At the end of the seminar, during the productive discussion, took place an active exchange of opinions of the seminar participants.
