INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC MEETING AT THE FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES

Under the leadership of the Council of Young Scientists (FSS) and the head of the Department of SociologyBaigabylov Nurlan Oralbaevich of ENU named after L.N. Gumilyov, in February 17, 2022 at 19:00 was organized an online meeting with PhD Dr. Hakan Gülerce, Director of the Center for Migration Policy and Research, Harran University (Turkey). The topic of the meeting was “Syrians in Turkey in the 10th year of forced migration: social cohesion and conflict zones”.

Hakan Gülerce presented the results of his research based on the latest data. During the meeting, issues of forced migration of refugees, relations between the Turkish people and the Syrians, the economic situation of refugees, education issues, and the impact of the pandemic were raised.

According to studies, with an increase in the level of education, the rate of acquisition of citizenship increases in direct proportion. As the level of education decreases, the number of consanguineous marriages increases. Children from low-income families are less likely to be educated than other groups. The coefficient of one-time migration of men is 75.2%, the coefficient of one-time migration of women is 24.8%. A common complaint of women and men is the cost of living. While the cost of living is the most important issue for low-income people, the most important issue for wealthy people is not knowing the language. The easiest aspect of life for men and women in Turkey is the absence of war. There is a strong belief among men and women that the Covid-19 virus is an attack by the great powers. Men, more than women, see the virus as an assassination attempt by the great powers.

The meeting was held in Turkish with simultaneous translation into Kazakh, interested students, young scientists and teachers participated. The moderator was Zhanadilova Aigul Ermekovna, Sociologist, Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists (FSSENU named after L.N. Gumilyov.
