In order to update the environmental movement for the youth of our university, a lecture was held with UNDP Project Manager Alexander Bely (a member of the Public Environmental Council of Astana). It was organized by PhD “Pedagogy and Psychology” S. Abenova (scientific adviser professor G.K.Dlimbetova) . Belyi A. is. The lecturer's motto was “Think globally - act locally: eco-initiatives for sustainable urban development”. The social and environmental issues raised during the presentation are current issues of the day. The program, with the help of which one can calculate his carbon footprint, caused the interest of young people. The calculation is performed using a software product developed in the framework of the UNDP-GEF project and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan “Sustainable Cities for Low-Carbon Development”. Alexander Bely spoke about the tools with which we can reduce our carbon footprint.
The lecture was continued by eco-volunteers of the Faculty of Philology. They made presentations of their ideas and practices. They have proposed eco-bags that would reduce household waste in the form of plastic bags that decompose for 15 years (undergraduates of the specialty "Translation Studies" Kirgizbaeva S., Uapova I., Zadonskaya V.). Undergraduates shared developed books with environmental content, informing about the key areas of environmental activity in the world and in our country (undergraduates of the specialty "Foreign Philology" Aliyeva A., Zhaқsylyқ A., Ilyasova A., Kyzyrova A., Shumenbayeva D., Kumarkhanova M. and others). Eco-volunteers also developed educational materials in which there are explanations for the population on the distribution of household waste (undergraduates of the specialty "Russian language and literature" Mazhitova D., Kurakbaeva J.). In addition, it should be noted, that the desire of volunteers to contribute to the environmental movement under the slogan “Think globally - act locally!”: They installed a container for collecting waste batteries in building number 4 of L.N. Gumilyov ENU. (undergraduates of the specialty "Translation" Adietova A., Konuspaeva S., Krykpaeva E.). All this activities are aimed to motivate young people of ENU.
In addition to this, the event was attended by teachers: Professor of the Department of Foreign Philology KN Bulatbaeva, Associate Professor Nuradinov AS, Bekova Zh.K. from the department of Social Pedagogy and Self-knowledge, etc.
In conclusion, the associate professor Nuradinov AS and PhD student of “Pedagogy and Psychology” S. Abenova presented key ideas about the prestige of eco-volunteers in higher educational institutions.
Ecological movement at ENU has already begun, and its active initiators became the youth of the Faculty of Philology and the Faculty of Social Sciences.
