Activities of the International Science Club at the Faculty of Social Sciences

Within the SOLID international project (Social Work and strengthening NGOs in the development of cooperation in drug addiction treatment), funded by the DAAD FoundationAt the Faculty of Social Sciences, teaching staff and doctoral students of the Department of Sociology participated in the "SOLID journal club." This project aims to improve, collaborate, and develop social work in the field of drug addiction treatment, which corresponds to the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.

The SOLID journal club was attended by young scientists and doctoral students from five countries - Germany, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, China, and Kazakhstan, who are engaged in research in three key areas:

·      "Social work, drug addiction treatment with an emphasis on opioid substitution therapy, including psychosocial support and counseling";

·      "Social work and infectious diseases, including HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, hepatitis C, COVID-19"; 

·      "Social work in prisons and with people who have survived imprisonment due to the use, sale or possession of illegal drugs."

"SOLID journal club– is a regular meeting of young scientists and doctoral students to discuss scientific articles published in research journals. The club's purpose is to summarize the selected paper, which the whole group has read, and its discussion.

At the February meeting of the SOLID journal club, Anna Dichtl, a doctoral student at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences (Germany), presented an article by Roberto Abadie et al. (2018), "Establishing trust in HIV/HCV research among people who inject drugs (PWID): Insights from empirical research.

We express our great gratitude to Anna Dicht for an interesting article and for organizing a discussion on topical issues of confidentiality and anonymity of research, discrimination, and stigmatization in the attitude of people who use drugs.

 In March 2022, the presentation of Dalida Mukasheva, a doctoral student of the ENU named after L.N. Gumilyov of Sociology department, is planned.
