Green Universities: Experience, Perspectives in the Context of Sustainable Development

On November 25, 2021, an international scientific and practical conference "Green Universities: Experience, Perspectives in the Context of Sustainable Development", dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan's independence was held in Almaty.

            The key speakers of the international conference were famous scientists from Kazakhstan and abroad – Bilyalov D.N., PhD, Chairman of the Board - Rector of KazNPU named after Abay, Hiroki Fuji - Professor, Director of the Center for the Promotion of Education for Sustainable Development at Okayama University (Okayama, Japan), Skakova A.A. - Deputy of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, G.A. Medieva - Head of the Office of Scientific and Technical Development and Scientific and Technical Council of NJSC "International Center for Green Technologies and Investment Projects", and others.         

As an invited speaker, the report was made by G.K. Dlimbetova, Professor of ENU named after L.N. Gumilyov, Member of the Public Organization for Environmental Education of the CIS Member States, which included the idea of an interdisciplinary approach in the implementation of pedagogical management by developing a managerial and ecocentric paradigm at the university.

            L.N. Gumilyov ENU was represented on the conference by active environmental volunteers of the Faculty of Social Sciences – undergraduates and PhD students of the Department of Social Pedagogy and Self-Knowledge: D.E. Akimish, D.A. Tabaran, S.A. Zhaukina, and A.K. Sandibekova.

            D.E. Akimish and D.A. Tabaran made a presentation on the topic "Environmental responsibility of students (on the example of L.N. Gumilyov ENU)".  S.A. Zhaukina presented a report on "Formation of ecological culture in teaching English at a pedagogical university".

During the conference, some of the ideas were given to form a "green" university in the context of sustainable development in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
