«CENTRAL ASIAN CARAVAN ON THE ROADS OF MEMORY» – JOINT INTERNATIONAL PROJECT OF RESEARCHERS

On June 7, 2022, the Department of Philosophy of the L.N. Gumilev Eurasian National University is hosting a Central Asian caravan on the Roads of Memory.

«Central Asian Caravan on the Roads of Memory» is a joint international project of researchers on the topics of historical memory supervised by the research platform «Esimde» (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan).

Project for researchers from Central Asia creates conditions for joint work on rethinking the common past and presents tasks:

– joint work on the study of various aspects of memory in the Central Asia;

– presentations of 7 unique studies;

– visiting places of remembrance in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan; 

The first three-day seminar of the participants of the project «Caravan on the roads of memory» was held in Kyrgyzstan from March 18 to 20, 2022. 

The second seminar «Memory practices in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan» combined with a scientific expedition to the places of memory of Kazakhstan, June 6-10, 2022. 

On June 7, at 10:30, in Auditorium 106, Faculty of Social Sciences, at Yanushkevich 6, the seminar will discuss current problems in the field of memory research in the Central Asia. The key reports will be devoted to the multidirectional nature of collective memory and how the assemblage of state efforts, initiatives of local communities and art practices in the interpretation of the common past takes place. 

A presentation will be held within the framework of the seminar:

Elmira Nogoibayeva – Commemorative practices as a tool for preserving memory: on the example of the MC «Ata-Beyit»;

Kulshat Medeuova, Ulbolsyn Sandybayeva – Art practice of memory in Kazakhstan: trauma and memory infrastructure;

Gulzada Abdalieva – «Uch Urkun. Mass repressions in Kyrgyzstan».

Special issue of the Bulletin of the L.N. Gumilev Eurasian National University. Historical sciences. Philosophy. Religion Series, No. 3 (140)/2022, dedicated to interdisciplinary studies of memory;

Central Asian interdisciplinary journal «Nemonomif».
