International cooperation

One of the main priorities of the Sociology department in its activities is to maintain international partnership with leading research centers and world universities. Sociology department has been closely and productively cooperating with universities and research centres of CIS countries such as Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, Bashkir State University, Tomsk State Pedagogical University, Saint-Petersburg State University and The All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center, and with a number of European universities including Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski (Bulgaria), Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (Germany), SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Opole (Poland), Scandinavian Institute for Academic Molbility (Finland), Istanbul University and Gazi University (Turkey) and University of California in Santa Barbara (USA), etc.

In its aspiration to develop experience and knowledge exchange, the sociology department has been actively involved in the academic mobility program for staff and students. In the academic year of 2018-2019, due to the academic mobility program, the students of Sociology department were able to study at a wide range of universities such as Istanbul University in Turkey (Rakhmankul Nurbek), Tbilisi State University in Georgia (Saduakhasova S.), University of Alicante in Spain (Aset L.), Warsaw University of Life Sciences in Poland (Zhakupbekov M.), SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Poland (Erezhepova A.) and many others. Master's students studying the 2nd course such as Muratova Merei, Isayeva Kuralay and Urazbayev Bekzat had their academic internship at the University of Opole (Poland). With regards to PhD program – a number of PhD students of 2nd and 3rd courses had academic and research internship at the following universities: Sembina J., Isakhova G. And Musabayeva A. at Gazi University (Ankara), Beisembayev S. at Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski (Bulgaria).

 A number of internationally acclaimed scholars have put a significant effort in training the students of the Sociology department: Zhanna Puzanova (Peoples' Friendship University of Russia), Tatyana Dronzina (Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, Bulgaria), Hayati Besherli (Gazi University, Turkey), Ilyas Erpay (Siirt University, Turkey), Heiko Shrader (Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, Germany), K. Fleming (United Kingdom), Jennifer Hauk (Germany), Margarita Safronova (USA) and many other.   In the 2015-2016 academic year Baigabylov N. About. conducted field research in Turkey "Turkiye'Kazak Diasporasinin'deki Sosyal-ekonomik Durumu" ("Kazakh Diaspora in Turkey: a sociological, economic analysis"), the study received an invitation for testing monographs from 21 to 27 December 2017 from the head of the Department of Arel University Professor H. Tufekcioglu(Istanbul, Turkey) and Professor J. Kelechi Haceteppe University (Ankara, Turkey).  As the national coordinator Baigabylov N. About. in the period from may 2017 to March 2018 took part in the international project of the United Nations (UNICEF). Associate Professor of Salikjanov R. S. is the developer of the module in an international project of the United Nations (UNICEF, 2017 may, 2018 March). During the fall semester of the 2016-2017 school year Baigabylov N. About., Rodionov A. N. Rodionova and K. N. prepared trilaterally course "non-Profit sector in Kazakhstan: the origins, structure and management of" international project on behalf of the Fund of F. Ebert Foundation in cooperation with the KNU, KNU them. al-Farabi. On April 14, 2017 in the framework of the Decade of science on the basis of the Department of sociology held a training seminar. Hauk (Germany) "Network analysis as a research strategy for the study of the non-profit sector". The main purpose of the seminar is to introduce the research technique "Net-Map", and software "VennMaker". Certified participants of the seminar from among the faculty of the Department became N. About.Baigabylov, A. N. Rodionov, K. N. Rodinova, A. B. Musabayev.  An international scientific conference "Religion, ethno-cultural traditions and intercultural dialogue as spiritual foundations for preventing the spread of extremist ideology" was held jointly with the Iranian cultural mission (June 2, 2016). The conference proceedings were published in the framework of the series "Religious studies of ENU after L. N. Gumilev.
