UNITED NATIONS PROJECT AT EURASIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY

                                                         

The social work group of the Department of sociology of the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University won an international project, as a result of the announced competition by the UN UNICEF, in the direction of "Strengthening national curricula for training and improving the skills of social work specialists in core competencies for interaction and cooperation with the community in changing social norms and behavior».

This project will be implemented by a working group of the Department of Sociology in partnership with the School of Social Work at Columbia University and the Center for Global Health Research in Central Asia (USA, New York).

The project aims to adapt the modules developed by the School of Social Work at Colombia University and the Centre for Global Health Research in Central Asia into the academic environment of Kazakhstan. In the course of the project, cascading seminars, webinars and teleconferences are planned for specialists in the field of social security, for social workers, psychologists, and social educators in order to enhance their professional competencies. In the framework of the international project, University students will also be involved in social security activities. 

The scientists of the department in the field of social work have experience in implementing UN UNICEF projects. In 2017-2018 UNICEF project was implemented on the theme “Strengthening educational programs for social work” (basic working group: Baigabylov N.O., Yessimova D.G., Dosmurzaeva D.O., Kudabekov M.M.); in 2017 – “Introduction of a universal and progressive model of patronage services to improve the health of mothers and children in Kazakhstan” (Yessimova D.G.), Associate Professor Yessimova D.G. is the national master coach of the UNICEF in training PHC practitioners to implement a universal and progressive model of home visits for pregnant women and children from 0 to 5 years of age.

The international project implemented by the UN at the L. N. Gumilyov ENU provides extensive opportunities for our colleagues to expand international practice and gain professional experience in social work with recognized schools of social work with a long history.
