About holding a meeting with the participants of the SOLID project

May 24, 2022, at the Eurasian National University. L. Gumilev held a meeting of the participants of the international project SOLID, "Social work and strengthening of NGOs in development cooperation to treat drug addiction" (Social work and strengthening of NGOs in the development of cooperation in the treatment of drug addiction), funded by the DAAD foundation with the leadership of the university. International project SOLID aims to strengthen, cooperate and develop social work in drug addiction treatment.

Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Yerkin Ongarbayev and Professor Heino Stöver of the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences addressed the project participants with a welcoming speech. In his speech, the vice-rector voiced the importance of training personnel adapted to modern realities. We need qualitatively new training and retraining programs for social workers that take into account global trends in this area. Professor Heino Stöver noted the world community's efforts and measures contributing to the development of social work in Kazakhstan, taking into account new approaches to the system of social protection and services for families in need of social support from the state and NGOs.

The Dean of "Social Sciences" Baubek Somzhurek, also made a welcoming speech. During the event, the project coordinator in Kazakhstan, Dinara Yesimova, presented the results of the project of the Eurasian National University named after L.Gumilyov. The project coordinator spoke about the holding on May 26-27, 2022, of the international forum of social workers of Kazakhstan, "Social work with convicts as ensuring human rights: issues of interaction between state institutions and civil society," and also raised questions about the lack of institutionalization of academic education in the field of social work on an example of the lack of faculties and departments of social work in the partner universities of the SOLID project and poor recognition of the profession.

The project participants from Germany, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan also participated in this meeting.
