Conference in Ulan-Ude

On November 14-17, Ulan-Ude hosted the international scientific conference "Suburban revolution in the regional context: peripheral urban areas in the post-Soviet space".

Impressive international reach for the conference with a specific focus on suburban development. Researchers from Latvia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, China and Kazakhstan, as well as Russian cities: Moscow, Abakan, Irkutsk, Yakutsk, Khabarovsk, Vladivostok gathered in Ulan-Ude at the Institute of Mongolian studies, Buddhology and Tibetology SB RAS.

The conference is held with the financial support Of the branch of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation in Russia.

The report focuses on the factors that influenced the development of new suburbanization processes in Kazakhstan, and how, after the transfer of the capital from Almaty to Astana in 1997, a communication channel with a rapidly and sometimes chaotically developing capital "opened" in small settlements. The nature of preventive measures against uncontrolled growth of suburbs and suburbs is analyzed. Examples of plans and implementation of programs "Zhasyl El", "Green belt of capital" for the formation of sustainable "belt food security" discusses the debate on the nature of new capital. The main provisions and metaphors of the development of the master plans of the capital and suburbs, the gradual transition from the metaphor of symbiotic growth to the rhetoric of agglomeration development are analyzed. The General context of the post-Soviet reformatting of ideas about life in the private sector and the features of pendulum migration is considered on the examples from two settlements Koyanda and Rodina.
