The Department of Pedagogy organized a dispute with parents on the topic of bullying and cyberbullying

On May 20 of this year, within the framework of the target funding program of the Science Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan BR18574152 «Research of topical aspects and development of measures to prevent bullying against children», online debates were held with parents of students of the gymnasium School №87 named after Abai Kunanbayev and Gymnasium School №86 named after M. Auezov in Astana.

The events were organized by the project manager, Professor M.P. Asylbekova, a leading researcher of the project, Professor P.B. Seitkazy and a junior researcher of the project, doctoral student Zh.T. Suleimenova.

During the debate, conducted in an online format, parents were shown excerpts from videos concerning bullying and cyberbullying. The project manager Asylbekova M.P. and the leading researcher of the project Seitkazy P. B. acquainted parents with a memo specially prepared within the framework of the project. The professors focused on the psychological image of the abuser, victim and observer involved in bullying, forms of bullying among children. Explaining the psychological signs that the child is susceptible to bullying, she explained that in such situations it is important for parents to react correctly, to provide maximum support to the child.

The dispute was continued by the junior researcher of the project Suleimenova Zh.T., who shared information concerning the forms, psychological causes and consequences of cyberbullying. Parents were given advice on preventing cyberbullying among children and protection from rudeness and bullying on the Internet.

Parents also took an active part in the event and shared their thoughts and experiences on bullying prevention. As a result of a comprehensive discussion of the problem, general opinions were formed on the importance of the role of the family, including parents, in the prevention of bullying.

In the future, within the framework of the program «Research of topical aspects and development of measures to prevent bullying against children», it was noted that work in this direction will also be carried out with school teachers.
